Bureau: Media Conversion
What is Media conversion?
Media conversion is the term
used for copying data from one type of tape to another without
changing the data. System migration, data migration, data transfer,
tape interchange and system upgrade are other common terms used
to describe this process.
In other words the data is duplicated onto a different capacity
tape or a tape for a different drive altogether. For instance
you may have AS400 data on a 3490E that you want to send to someone
who only has an AS400 with a 3480 drive - in this case you need
media conversion.
Some Examples of Media Conversion Jobs:
- Duplicating a software suppliers' latest software releases on AS400 onto different tapes for customers who are not using the same tape drive as the software house
- Duplicating a DSS4 tape onto DDS1 tapes
- Duplicating ICL open reel to ICL 3480
- Duplicating sets of master tapes to create backup copies
